Our elders are a blessing and the greatest treasure of our families. Caring for them and attending to their needs is one of the many ways we can show that we love and appreciate them.
We provide support in many forms to old-age homes throughout the year. During the winter months, we take soup along with warm socks that we distribute amongst the elderly. We compile gift packs, consisting of basic toiletry needs and a few more items, which are then distributed within the old age homes.
Challenge
The number of elderly people in South Africa currently sits around an estimated 5 million plus. With economic struggles, many organisations that donate funds towards care for older people have had to cut back. Combined with poor pension funds, government-funded old age homes that struggle to provide the minimum, and the number of elderly requiring care, we’re left with struggling elders who require all the help they can get.
Idea
Growing old poses its own challenges that most don’t yet understand. Our goal is to provide the necessary support that the old age homes need in the form of food, care packages, and helping fill general needs in order to properly take care of their people.
