Project Detail

A community gardening program can reduce food insecurity, and help to fight unemployment.

Heavenly Haven was lucky enough to have been given a piece of land within George, which we’re planning to transform into a growing, flourishing Food Garden. The aim of the garden is to install greenhouse tunnels within which we’ll get men and women from the community to grow all sorts of root vegetables, cabbage and more. The idea behind this project is an eco-friendly approach to a sustainable income. Along with the veggies, we will plant and grow microgreens that will be sold to surrounding restaurants. Our goal is to plant only heirloom seeds, which are non-GMO seeds and are of more nutritional value.

Challenge

You may have heard this saying before: ‘Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime’. We need the assistance of our own community both men and women to please come and help with our Food Garden. And we also need seeds from possible sponsors.

Idea

With this project, we’ll be creating jobs and an eco-friendly approach to a sustainable income for people from our communities.
